Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday briefed reporters on his meetings with international officials on the sidelines of the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Highlighting his heavy duty as the top diplomat to explain Tehran's positions and views on regional and international developments, he expressed hope that he had been able to fulfill his legal obligations in the best way possible. "I held talks with several senior officials and representatives from across the world in addition to exchanging views with US experts in various areas from scientific research to communications," Zarif said on the last day of his visit to New York, IRNA reported.

Referring to the Sept. 24 Hajj crush tragedy which claimed the lives of more than 460 Iranians, he noted, "The catastrophe dominated most of my meetings and the visit was a perfect opportunity to let the world know about Saudi Arabia's incompetence."

The minister also said, "Another crucial issue discussed in detail was the full and proper implementation of the July 14 nuclear deal between Iran and major powers [officially titled the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action]."

Expressing regret that some neighboring states are not in favor of diplomatic solutions to defuse the crises in Syria and Yemen, Zarif noted, "Such countries intend to impose their political will on the oppressed Yemeni people through massacre which is definitely a failed policy in our view."

Concerning his meetings with US Secretary of State John Kerry, he said the talks revolved around   domestic challenges facing the US administration regarding the JCPOA.
