In the Cabinet meeting on Sunday, President Hassan Rouhani backed the record of Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi, who is expected to appear before Parliament in the coming days to defend his performance at an impeachment session, IRNA reported.
“The government respects the lawmakers’ right to [impeach ministers], but I believe Mr. Akhoundi is a hard-working minister, who has special plans for the situation that will arise after the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [the official title of the July 14 nuclear deal with major powers].”
“The government expects the respected lawmakers to vote no to the impeachment of Mr. Akhoundi to pave the way for the government to achieve its targets in the transportation sector using his services.”
