President Hassan Rouhani praised Oman for playing a “constructive” role in the region, underlining the need for increased regional cooperation to put an end to crises plaguing the region.
The president made the remarks in a recent telephone conversation with Sultan Qaboos bin Said, ISNA reported.
“Cooperation between Tehran and Muscat on the region, especially to help restore peace and stability, is crucial.” Rouhani pointed to “religious” and “historical” bonds between the two countries, stressing that expansion of relations with neighbors, particularly Oman, is a top priority for the Islamic Republic.
Sultan Qaboos extended congratulations on the conclusion of the July 14 nuclear deal between Iran and major powers, expressing hope that bilateral relations will improve once sanctions against Tehran are lifted.
