A meeting of governors started on Monday with a special focus on the "economy of resistance" and the upcoming elections.

Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and Mohammad Hossein Moqimi, head of the election headquarters, as well as other top-level officials are among the participants, IRNA reported.

"The government has taken effective steps to address the nuclear issue and has fulfilled its election pledges," Moqimi said, adding that people expect to see meaningful changes in administrative bodies."

According to the official, more time is needed to deal with domestic issues efficiently; moreover, priorities need to be identified to accelerate economic and cultural development.

Highlighting the role of governors in shouldering such a heavy burden, he noted, "Dedicated managers have been able to help accomplish great objectives in various areas; however, there are still challenges which need to be solved."

Javad Naserian, deputy interior minister for human resources development, said governors are expected to do their best to ensure democratic elections.

Underlining plans devised to run the elections smoothly, he noted, "The meetings of the election headquarters will be held every other week along with other technical committees."

The parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections are set for Feb. 26, 2016.

The "economy of resistance" is a set of policies proposed by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to counter sanctions, promote domestic growth and reduce consumption.
