A senior diplomat said on Monday Iran and Kuwait are determined to boost bilateral ties.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian described Tehran-Kuwait cooperation as “constructive.”

He said “extremists and enemies” will not be allowed to undermine relations between the two countries.  Tehran welcomes bilateral and multilateral negotiations on regional issues, he noted, Press TV reported.

The administration of President Hassan Rouhani has announced that its top foreign policy priority is promotion of ties with regional states.

Kuwait is one of the Persian Gulf Arab states that have maintained close diplomatic relations with Iran.  Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah visited Iran for the first time in June 2014.

In July, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif traveled to Kuwait on a three-nation tour that also took him to Qatar and Iraq.
