Iran urged Bahrain’s government to stop playing the blame game and instead consider the settlement of the tension in the Persian Gulf kingdom through “real political dialogue.”

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham on Sunday dismissed as “baseless” allegations leveled by Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa against the Islamic Republic, Press TV reported.

In an interview with the Asharq al-Awsat newspaper on September 10, the Bahraini official said the explosive materials that Manama claims were seized in June while being smuggled into the Arab country from Iran were “sufficient to obliterate Manama.”

Afkham said Bahrain’s policy to make unfounded accusations is aimed at covering up its internal problems.

Al Khalifa also claimed the recent nuclear agreement between Iran and major powers “does not address all sources of tension” between Tehran and Persian Gulf Arab states.
