Hearing on JCPOA

Hearing on JCPOAHearing on JCPOA

The special parliamentary commission tasked with reviewing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action held a meeting on Tuesday, IRNA reported.

Iran and major powers reached an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program in Vienna on July 14, which is formally known as the JCPOA.

Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani and Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, were the main participants at the Tuesday meeting.

Referring to critical comments on the performance of the current and former nuclear negotiating teams, Shamkhani stressed that both teams greatly contributed to the success of the talks. “Criticizing the approach of the previous negotiating team or downplaying efforts by current nuclear diplomats is a big mistake.”

He pointed to the key role of the Majlis in reviewing the JCPOA as underlined by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, saying, “We hope parallel debates by Parliament and the SNSC will result in a single outcome so that a national consensus will be formed to go through this stage and deal with the other side’s actions.”
