Ambassador in Baghdad Hassan Danaeifar met Iraqi President Fuad Masum on Sunday to discuss the ongoing crisis gripping the Middle East as well as other international issues, IRNA reported. The two sides exchanged views on subjects of mutual interest such as the campaign against extremism, Iraq’s security challenges and Tehran-Baghdad economic cooperation. Referring to Iran’s leading role in combating terrorism in the region, Masum thanked Iran’s timely support for his country in the fight against the so-called Islamic State militant group. The Iraqi official pointed to the “historical” ties between Iran and Iraq and called for expansion of relations on such domains as “politics, economy and culture.”
