Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has highlighted the role of political parties in promoting democracy, calling for the establishment of major political blocs. “If the ground is not prepared for the establishment of large parties, small parties which are likeminded and aligned can form fronts to help institutionalize democracy,” the chairman of the Expediency Council said in a meeting with members of the Tehran branch of the pro-reform National Trust Party on Sunday.
