President Hassan Rouhani sent a message to his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov on Sunday congratulating him and his people on the occasion of the national day of the Central Asian country, IRNA reported.
On August 31, 1991, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Uzbekistan declared independence. September 1 was proclaimed National Independence Day.
Rouhani expressed hope that Tehran and Tashkent could build on “historical” and “cultural” bonds between the two peoples to deepen their relations at bilateral, regional and international levels based on “mutual respect”.
The president wished success and wellbeing for the Uzbek people and government.
