The deputy foreign minister for European and American affairs said enhanced interaction with Latin American countries is a priority for the Islamic Republic.

Majid Takht-Ravanchi made the statement in a Saturday meeting with his Bolivian counterpart Carlos Alurralde, who was in Tehran on an official visit to attend the third round of Iran-Bolivia political consultations, ISNA reported.

The two sides denounced the West for adopting double standards toward human rights, making "instrumental" use of the campaign against drug trafficking and using "ineffective" and "vague" policies in the fight against terrorism.

The Bolivian diplomat expressed La Paz's support for Iran's right to take advantage of nuclear technology for peaceful applications and hoped the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action reached last month between Iran and the P5+1 (China, France, Russia, Britain and United States plus Germany) to resolve the nuclear issue begins as soon as possible.

Pointing to Iran's capacities and advancements in dam construction, especially small and medium structures, Alurralde called for collaboration in building these types of dams in Bolivia for agricultural purposes as well as electricity generation.

He described as "successful" cooperation with Iran in the health and medical treatment sector.

The two officials also explored ways to increase exports of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment to the Latin American country.
