The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei thanked government officials for their efforts to cut inflation, stabilize the economy and conclude the nuclear negotiations with major powers.
"(Handling) the nuclear talks was one of the important tasks accomplished" by the government, the Leader said.
"Lowering inflation and bringing relative stability to the economy and controlling the volatility of the market were among the government's successful efforts which should go on," he said, noting, "But the double-digit inflation is not still satisfactory and it has to be cut below 10%."
The current government, which took office in 2013, has wrestled inflation down to around 16% from above 40% two years ago.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani and his Cabinet members on Wednesday.
He underlined the necessity for higher vigilance against the enemy's plots to make inroads into the country's affairs by taking advantage of the conditions expected to emerge after economic sanctions are lifted, which will allow an influx of foreign businesses into the domestic market.
Last month's nuclear deal with the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany), which can go into force in the coming months, will bring an end to sanctions while committing Iran to some constraints on its nuclear program.
The Leader recommended officials to refrain from attempts that might create commotion and consequently undermine solidarity among the people, IRNA reported.
Any negligence on the part of officials facilitates the enemy's cultural, economic and political infiltration, he said, adding, "To safeguard harmony, any attempt likely to create commotion and division and any remark that might hurt our solidarity must be avoided."
Noting that the pace of scientific progress must be sustained, Ayatollah Khamenei called for special attention to promoting justice alongside efforts to help develop the economy.
"Caution needs to be exercised in relation to economic moves to prevent gaps between various social classes, which will make the poor suffer."
He said planning should be carried out in line with the principles of the resistance economy, adding that an effective and practical program should be outlined to ensure full implementation of the policies of the resistance economy.
The resistance economy is a set of economic principles proposed by Ayatollah Khamenei to wean the economy off oil revenues and boost domestic production.
