Gov't Renews Allegiance to Imam Khomeini

President Hassan Rouhani and members of the Cabinet visited the mausoleum of the late Imam Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, on Monday to renew allegiance to his ideals.
They were accompanied by the Imam's grandson, Hojatoleslam Seyyed Hassan Khomeini.
In his speech at the ceremony, Rouhani highlighted the key features of the Imam's leadership, reminding that he attached considerable weight to the people's views.
"The Imam deemed it necessary (for officials) to refer to the people's votes" on state matters, he was quote by IRNA as saying.
The president noted that to the Imam the establishment's identity was an inseparable part of Islamic and Republic tenets, saying it would be a violation of Imam Khomeini's principles to sacrifice one  element for the other.
In the Imam's view, a true revolutionary ideology approves commitment to the law and Islamic ethics and is at total odds with extremism, he stressed.
Imam Khomeini's grandson also addressed the ceremony, thanking the nuclear negotiating team led by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, which reached a historic deal with the P5+1 (the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and China plus Germany) last month.
The accord provides for the lifting of economic sanctions against Tehran in exchange for temporary constraints on its nuclear program.
"Everyone should be grateful to the government and particularly to Mr. Zarif and his friends for their efforts to restore our nuclear rights."
Pledging to settle the nuclear issue that was the subject of over a decade of dispute between Iran and major powers, over which they imposed sanctions on the country, was a platform on which Rouhani won the 2013 presidential election.
Hojatoleslam Khomeini expressed hope that "the government of prudence and hope" can successfully deliver on its other vows as well.
