Iran and major powers will likely meet on the sidelines of the upcoming UN General Assembly in New York at foreign minister level, an informed source told Fars News Agency.

The General Debate of the 70th Session of the UNGA will take place from September 28 to October 6.

The source also said the first session of the Joint Commission under the July 14 nuclear deal, comprised of negotiating participants and tasked with monitoring the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (as the deal is officially named), will also take place in New York.

In another development, members of the presiding board of the Majlis commission on JCPOA were elected on Sunday. A lawmaker told Fars that Alireza Zakani was chosen as head of the commission and the first session of the panel will be held soon.

Parliament has elected 15 lawmakers as members of the commission to review the nuclear deal reached between Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany).

Meanwhile, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani expressed a positive view about the JCPOA. "On the nuclear dispute, we wanted to have the right to enrich uranium, and now we have the right," he said on Sunday.

Larijani explained that in the past, western powers never had accepted to recognize Iran's right to enrichment and now they do, so the JCPOA can be considered a good deal.

The deal should not be "scuttled," the speaker stressed.
