The Majlis speaker has warned against foreign attempts to foment strife among Iranians as well as peoples of the region. “Westerners are busy sowing discord among the people and abuse it to their advantage,” Ali Larijani said in a meeting with the war veteran staff of Parliament on Tuesday. “They have been hatching plots to provoke war in the region and drag us into it,” he was quoted by IRNA as saying, adding that there is valid evidence pointing to the US role in creating and expanding regional strife. Some states in the region have been following the same policies, which will eventually backfire, he said without naming names. Underscoring the need for closer interaction between the executive and legislative branches of government to address internal problems, Larijani said, “It is imperative that the government and Majlis work in unison to help improve the economy.”
