The United Nations special coordinator for Lebanon has welcomed an initiative by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif that stresses regional cooperation to resolve the crises in the Middle East.
Sigrid Kaag said on Sunday the initiative by the Iranian foreign minister is in line with UN policy in the region, including in Syria and Yemen, IRNA reported.
Kaag added that the UN welcomes Iran’s open-door policy in the wake of its recent nuclear agreement with major powers. The UN envoy also said Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt have links with parties in Lebanon and can play a positive role to help end the political deadlock over picking a new president for Lebanon.
