The deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs urged immediate action to stop the Saudi-led military assault against Yemen, noting that Tehran will support any effort meant to establish true dialogue and find fair solutions to the crisis gripping the impoverished Arab country.

Hossein Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a telephone conversation with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on Friday, Fars News Agency reported.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the war-ravaged country and exchanged views on the United Nations' recent plans aimed at establishing a ceasefire to pave the way for national dialogue among Yemeni groups.

Stressing the urgent need to bring an end to military attacks against Yemen and the blockade on the country, which have hampered relief work, destroyed infrastructure and left thousands of innocent people dead and injured, Amir Abdollahian appreciated the UN envoy's constructive measures in the crisis-hit country.

The UN envoy hailed Iran's efforts to help find a settlement to the Yemeni crisis and briefed the Iranian official on his meetings with representatives from the Houthi Ansarullah movement in Muscat and with Yemen's government officials in Riyadh.

"The Muscat talks are moving forward and all (parties) insist on solving the crisis using political means," he noted.

Ahmed said the draft of a political agreement has been prepared and Yemeni political groups are to offer their views on the draft. He expressed hope that the draft agreement would be approved by all parties.
