The secretary general of Iran's inter-parliamentary group said eight Iranian lawmakers are scheduled to take part in the 133rd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva on October 17-21.
Ahmadreza Dastgheib, chairman of the inter-parliamentary group, Kazem Jalali, a member of the human rights committee of the union, Javad Jahangirzadeh, a member of the union's committee on relations with the United Nations and Fatemeh Rahbar, a member of the women's committee of the union will be on the Iranian delegation, Seyyed Moayyed Hosseini told IRNA on Saturday.
Hosseini also said he and three other parliamentarians, namely Kamaleddin Pirmoazen, Abbasali Mansouri Arani and Mohammad Mehdi Boroumandi, will also attend the meeting.
"Fighting extremism and terrorism, blocking the ways of financing terrorist groups, combating drug trafficking, gender equality, defending the rights of women and children, sustainable development and cooperation between parliaments are the main topics for discussion in the assembly," Hosseini noted.
The 132nd IPU Assembly was held on March 28-April 1 in Hanoi, Vietnam with the presence of 1,300 lawmakers from 160 countries.
