Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani will participate in the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament to be held in New York from August 31 to September 2, Lawmaker Moayyed Hosseini Sadr said in an interview with IRNA on Wednesday.
Hosseini Sadr added that he, along with six other lawmakers, including Ahmadreza Dastgheib, Kazem Jalali, Javad Jahangiri and Alireza Marandi, comprise the parliamentary delegation to accompany Larijani.
"All these legislators are members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its committees," Hosseini Sadr said.
The meeting is a forum for dialogue and cooperation between parliaments at the highest level. The overall theme of the conference will focus on peace, democracy and development seen through the parliamentary lens.
The conference, convened by the IPU, is part of a series of high-level meetings leading up to the UN summit in late September, at which the new Sustainable Development Goals will be launched.
