Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will visit Moscow next week, Russian news agency TASS reported the Iranian Embassy as saying on Monday.
“The visit is expected next week,” TASS quoted an embassy official as saying. “The exact date will be announced in the coming days.”
Meanwhile, Fars News Agency, citing the Lebanese As-Safir daily, reported that Zarif will travel to Damascus before the Moscow visit to meet Syrian officials, including President Bashar al-Assad and Foreign Minister Walid Muallem to discuss a plan sponsored by Tehran and Moscow for the diplomatic resolution of the lingering political crisis gripping the Arab country.
The top Iranian diplomat left Tehran for Beirut on Tuesday and is also slated to visit Pakistan on Thursday.
Meanwhile, an unnamed Foreign Ministry official told Fars on Tuesday Zarif’s trip to Ankara has been postponed due to his tight schedule.
