Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif rejected charges about activities at the Parchin military site, 30 km south of Tehran, stressing that such “lies” are spread with the aim of undermining “the atmosphere of understanding” created after Iran and world powers reached a nuclear deal last month.

“Such remarks indicate that all claims against the Islamic Republic of Iran in this relation are baseless. We have announced that road construction is underway at the site,” Zarif told the press on Saturday, IRNA reported.

A US think tank has said Iran might be cleaning up the site, where the UN nuclear agency claims experiments may have taken place in the past which could be relevant to any effort to develop nuclear weapons, Reuters reported on Thursday.

The US-based Institute for Science and International Security pointed to satellite images, taken after the deal was clinched on July 14, showing vehicles and container-like objects being moved at Parchin.

Iran denies its nuclear work may have any military aspects, saying the program is entirely peaceful.
