The Majlis speaker raised a strong defense of last month’s historic deal with major powers over Tehran’s nuclear program, giving an assurance that it would not have any negative repercussions for the country.

“In our view, the nuclear agreement has no harmful consequences for Iran,” Ali Larijani was quoted by Fars News Agency as saying.

Speaking at a ceremony marking National Journalists’ Day on Saturday, he said the establishment’s collective decisions based on thorough consideration of various aspects of negotiations were the key to Iran’s success in nuclear talks.

“All the aspects of negotiations were discussed and examined and no decision was made individually or based on a superficial proposal.”

“This was the path the establishment chose,” the senior lawmaker said.

A bill passed by Parliament in July stipulates that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the deal is formally known, should be subject to review by the Majlis and the Supreme National Security Council before being implemented.

“Even if this pact is ratified in Iran, everyone should be aware that we still have a difficult path ahead of us,” Larijani noted.

“The JCPOA is a start for other stages and this start will definitely be faced with some problems,” he added.
