A senior official at Britain’s Foreign Office said London is keen to hold consultations and develop collaboration with Iran to help address Middle East issues.

Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Tobias Ellwood made the statement in a meeting with the non-resident chargés d’affaires to Britain, Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

“The London government, aware of Iran’s important and strategic role in the Middle East, is interested in consultations and cooperation with Tehran on regional issues with the aim of finding political solutions,” the British official said.

He welcomed the recent nuclear deal between Iran and major powers and said the settlement has brought about “a mutual understanding” setting the stage for “constructive” cooperation in other areas.
