An advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said hostile attempts to break the "axis of resistance" in the region are doomed.

"Enemies will fail to defeat the axis of resistance in the region. They will never see their evil dreams in Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon come true," Ali Akbar Velayati said.

"Ironically, some states that have not experienced the slightest degree of democracy allege that legal governments of Syria and some other Muslim member countries of the United Nations have not been elected democratically."

Velayati made the remarks in his address to police commanders in Tehran on Tuesday.

Praising police for their role in effectively guarding national security and stability, he said, "Thanks to the wise leadership of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Iran has emerged as the mightiest regional country in military, defense and security domains."

Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) reached a nuclear accord last month in Vienna to settle a 12-year dispute over Tehran's nuclear program.

He called on officials to exercise meticulous care in their interactions with the International Atomic Energy Agency and international negotiating partners on the deal. "Relevant authorities should thoroughly examine the deal and be careful in dealing with the agency and the P5+1," the senior official was quoted by IRNA as saying. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the pact is officially known, is to undergo review by the Majlis and the Supreme National Security Council before being put into effect.
