Alireza Bigdeli, Iran’s envoy to Turkey, met chairpersons of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), namely Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag, to discuss bilateral relations between Tehran and Ankara and regional developments, Fars News Agency reported on Sunday. The officials underlined the role of parliamentary deputies in helping foster bonds between the peoples of the two countries. They also stressed the necessity of cooperation between Iran and Turkey to help restore security and stability to crisis-hit Syria. The HDP is a left-wing and pro-Kurdish political party in Turkey. In the 2015 general election, the party exceeded expectations by polling about 13% of the vote, won 80 seats and is tied with the Nationalist Movement Party as the third largest political group in parliament.
