Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said Tehran’s policy is to support the democratic process and “sustainable development” in western neighbor Iraq, expressing satisfaction with the “close” parliamentary relations between the two countries. “Friendly, cordial and historical bonds between the two nations of Iran and Iraq have set the stage for developing close and stable relations in all areas,” Larijani said in a meeting with Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament’s Security and Defense Commission Hakim al-Zamili in Tehran on Monday, ICANA reported. The Iraqi lawmaker described Tehran-Baghdad relations as “brotherly” and said the Islamic Republic is an important regional country and a reliable backer for Iraq’s anti-terror campaign.
