The Foreign Ministry dismissed as “groundless” recent remarks by the Bahraini interior minister, who accused Iran of meddling in the kingdom’s affairs.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Friday described terrorism and the sectarian approaches adopted by some parties as the real security threats facing the troubled region.

Afkham was reacting to remarks by Bahraini Interior Minister Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, who accused Iran on Thursday of interfering in the Arab country’s domestic affairs and disrespecting the values of neighborly relations, Press TV reported.

Afkham said the Islamic Republic has always acted responsibly and made efforts to strengthen regional peace and stability, urging Manama to work to deal with the root causes of the problems in Bahrain instead of playing a “blame game” and seeking to create an atmosphere of tension.
