Deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs hoped cooperation will take shape at regional level with a view to fighting terrorism and extremism in a "committed" and "responsible" manner.
Hossein Amir Abdollahian made the remark in a meeting with Switzerland's State Secretary of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Yves Rossier, who was on an official visit to Tehran, IRNA reported on Saturday.
He urged increased cooperation with Bern on regional and international issues.
Emphasizing the right of Syrian and Yemeni people to determine their own fate, he said, "the pressure exerted by certain countries to overthrow the legitimate government of Syria and their financial and military support for terrorist groups set a dangerous precedent which in effect bolstered terrorist groups and turned them into a threat to regional countries as well as the international community."
Highlighting the need to urgently address the grave humanitarian situation in Yemen, he called for acceleration of humanitarian aid to the war-affected people, a halt to the Saudi-led military campaign and efforts to help establish national dialogue as part of a political solution to the crisis gripping the impoverished Arab country.
Amir Abdollahian reiterated the call for dialogue among all domestic groups to help resolve the crises in Yemen and Syria.
The Swiss official said it is a positive approach to engage with Tehran in cooperation with the United Nations to help improve the humanitarian situation in Syria and called for continuation of collaboration in this regard.
Rossier said Iran's recent nuclear agreement with the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) could set the stage for the Islamic Republic to play a more effective role in the region.
The deal with the major powers has triggered visits by political and economic delegations to Iran, mostly from Europe.
