Lebanon’s prime minister described as a “victory” the recent nuclear deal between Iran and major powers, expressing hope that the positive impact of the accord on regional developments and bilateral relations would soon begin to emerge.

Tammam Salam made the remark in a meeting with Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Fathali in Beirut on Friday, in which the two sides exchanged views on the nuclear agreement and explored avenues for enhancing bilateral ties, IRNA reported.

Congratulating the Iranian nation on the nuclear settlement, Salam described the Islamic Republic as an “important” and “influential” country in the region.

The two nations are linked by “historical” bonds, he said, hoping the deal would help eliminate obstacles in the way of expanding mutual economic relations in various fields.

The Iranian envoy attributed the success of the nuclear talks to the people’s resistance against the excessive demands of some world powers based on the guidelines of the Leader, the vision of President Hassan Rouhani as well as the endeavors of the negotiating team. “Iran’s success in this long battle is a victory for all regional countries.”

Fathali referred to the capabilities of the country in various economic fields and hoped under the new conditions created by the nuclear breakthrough the two sides would be able to develop relations in energy and commercial sectors.
