A senior lawmaker has said the so-called US-led international coalition against Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq and Syria is a “political show” by the United States and its allies in the region. “The US performance during this short period (since the start of the coalition’s air strikes in Iraq and Syria) indicates that the policy is to destroy Syria’s infrastructure, which will eventually benefit terrorist groups,” MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a meeting with Fernando Bustamante, president of the Ecuadorian National Assembly’s International Relations Committee, in Quito on Monday. The chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee also called for increased cooperation with Latin American countries to deal with the hegemonistic policies of world powers.
