President Hassan Rouhani will travel to Russia on Thursday at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS summits in the city of Ufa on July 9-10, IRNA reported.  The deputy for communications and information at the presidential office, Parviz Esmaeili, said, “It will be a two-day event, and the president will have a tight schedule.”  He said Rouhani will be among main speakers in both summits, adding that the president will meet SCO and BRICS heads of state on the sidelines of the meetings.  The SCO is a Eurasian political, economic and military organization. Iran has observer status in the organization. BRICS (the acronym for an association of five major emerging economies, including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) includes developing or newly industrialized countries which are distinguished by their large, fast-growing economies and significant influence on regional and global affairs. Since 2010, BRICS nations have met annually at formal summits. Russia currently holds the presidency of BRICS.
