Pro-reform political activist Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari underlined the need to promote “harmony” among reformists with the aim of making gains in the February 26, 2016 parliamentary election.
The interior minister under former president Mohammad Khatami made the remark in an address to a meeting of reformists in Yazd on Saturday, IRNA reported.
He pointed to the presidential elections in 2005 and 2013, which were won by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hassan Rouhani respectively, and said, “The outcome of the 2005 election was not favorable to reformists, and the reason for it was dissension.”
“But in 2013… (reformists) took a sensible step in the eleventh hour by replacing a figure (referring to the decision by Mohammad Reza Aref to withdraw his candidacy and reformists’ support for Rouhani)… which was a blessing for the country,” he said, noting, “In the next election, every move should be made with harmony.”
