The chairman of the Expediency Council said the people will continue backing the diplomats engaged in nuclear talks with major powers, IRNA reported on Thursday.
“In view of the Leader’s support, the wise, vigilant and mature nation will not undermine (the negotiators striving) in the diplomatic battlefield and will not turn their backs on them,” Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said in a meeting academics and religious scholars.
“We have never been seeking nuclear weapons because the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has issued a fatwa (religious decree) banning the production of nuclear bombs.” In addition, the senior official said, “The world has become aware of the fact that respectful negotiations with the Islamic Republic are the only way to resolve issues (with Tehran).”
