Call to Curb Extremism

Chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Sunday stressing similarities among Islamic sects and avoiding hostility and unreasonable rivalries are among “the effective ways” in the campaign against extremist groups, IRNA reported.
He highlighted the threat posed to the region by the “dangerous” terrorist groups operating in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and several other countries and said, “These groups act powerfully and violently and create problems for the Muslim world and provoke religious disagreements and division among followers of Islamic sects.”
He added that the countries in the region can form an alliance based on similarities to pursue their political and economic goals.
