The time is opportune for Iran to industrialize and the private sector should be at the forefront of the economy, First Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri told a ceremony held to mark Industry and Mining Day in Iran.
"The government and private sector need to work in harmony to move ahead with the plans to industrialize the economy," he was quoted by IRNA as saying.
According to the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei's guidelines on Article 44 of the Constitution, the private sector can venture into key economic sectors that were earlier strictly under government or state control, he noted. "The government needs to act swiftly to chart out policies related to industrialization."
The senior official and a strong advocate of private enterprise went on to say that "Industry and mining are key sectors of the economy whose development can and should contribute to economic growth and prosperity." Given the conditions, consequences and challenges in the country the need for sustainable development is an absolute necessity, he told the meeting.
