Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei praised judiciary officials for their efforts to clean up the judicial system.

“Good measures have been taken to improve the system of the judiciary and this path should be followed with seriousness because any corrupt act in the judicial system will lead to greater acts of corruption in the society.”

He made the remarks in a meeting with judiciary officials in Tehran on Sunday.

Underlining the importance of the “independence” of the judicial system, Ayatollah Khamenei said officials should resist factors such as “threat”, “bribery” and “public pressure”, which undermine the independence of the judiciary, and persist on following sound practices.

He noted that the “might” of the judicial system, which contributes substantially to its independence, should be demonstrated by maintaining a decisive and assertive stance to defend the rights of the people.

“The rule of law” and “fairness” are also directly linked to the independence of the system, the Leader was quoted by IRNA as saying.

He called for “coordinated” efforts to help prevent crimes, saying, “Other organizations should cooperate (with the judiciary) to initiate a coordinated effort in this relation.”

“Because, otherwise, crime will regularly increase to a point that it will be impossible to contain it.”

Expressing regret over the rise in the number of prisoners, he said, “This issue inflicts financial, family, moral and social costs and officials should focus on finding ways to effectively address it.”

The Leader stressed the necessity of “planning”, “amending the rules” and “training qualified personnel” in the judiciary, saying, “The flawed rules should be amended. I absolutely oppose attempts to evade the law.”
