Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Gholam Hossein Dehqani expressed concern over a spike in violence in Afghanistan, saying the activities of extremists in the war-torn country pose a security threat to Iran and the entire region.
In a speech at a Monday UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Afghanistan, Dehqani said Iran has always condemned terrorist attacks in the Central Asian country as well as any cooperation with terrorist groups operating there as Iran believes such activities undermine peace in Afghanistan, Press TV reported.
The envoy also said Tehran “has always voiced support for the establishment of peace, stability and security as well as economic and social development in Afghanistan since it believes security in Afghanistan means security on Iranian borders.”
