The United States will not agree to a deal without securing the access and transparency needed to fully assess Iran’s nuclear program, an unnamed State Department official said in a statement on Sunday in reference to a Majlis bill requiring the negotiators to safeguard nuclear achievements in talks with the major powers, Bloomberg reported.

The lawmakers approved the outlines of the bill that would ban inspections of military sites and require the lifting of all international sanctions under any nuclear deal with the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany).

For the bill to become law, a detailed version has to be approved by Parliament and the Guardians Council.

The US official described the vote as a preliminary legislative step that awaits final action.
