President Hassan Rouhani said the activities of terrorist groups in the region benefit no Middle East countries, as terrorism is a major obstacle in the way of development and expansion of relations among regional states.

Rouhani made the remarks in a phone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Thursday, ISNA reported.

All countries in the region are suffering from the consequences of terrorism, Rouhani said, expressing hope that the conflicts in the Muslim world would soon be resolved and that peace would prevail.

"We should all work hand in hand to stop the bloodshed of our Muslim brothers," he noted.

The president highlighted the significance of sending humanitarian aid to the war-hit countries in the region, especially Yemen, calling on the international community to help facilitate such efforts.

Expressing interest in improving ties with all countries, especially neighboring states, Rouhani said there is good potential for expansion of relations with Qatar in political and economic spheres, which need to be utilized in the best possible way.

The Qatari emir congratulated Rouhani on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan (started June 18) and asked him to convey his felicitations to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

"(Tehran and Doha) might have differing opinions on some issues, but the two friendly, brotherly and neighborly countries need to (cooperate to) overcome difficulties," the emir noted.

He welcomed the role of the Islamic Republic in helping address regional crises and said, "Iran can play a very significant role in establishing peace and stability in the region," adding that all regional states need to make efforts to foster regional peace and security in Ramadan.

Calling for dialogue rather than conflict to settle Mideast conflicts, especially in Yemen, Syria and Iraq, the emir urged foreign ministers of the two countries to increase bilateral consultations with a view to exploring all possible ways to preserve the interests of the two nations as well as the whole region.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the revelation of the Holy Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
