President Hassan Rouhani and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani have held talks on the latest regional developments.

In a phone conversation with the president on late Friday, the Qatari emir extended felicitations to the Iranian nation and government on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and the two officials exchanged views about regional issues, particularly the massacre of innocent civilians by terrorist groups, the Mehr news agency reported.

They expressed hope that bloody incidents would stop and peace would be restored in the region.

Rouhani wished happiness for all Muslims around the world, particularly the Qatari people and government. He voiced concern over terrorist and extremist actions and called for cooperation among regional heads of state to combat terrorists.

The president added, "We should all relentlessly endeavor to stop bloodshed among Muslims, especially during these blissful days; since the whole region is in critical circumstances."

"All the regional countries should safely pass through the crisis by planning and making efforts to restore peace and security in the region."

Rouhani stressed the necessity to respect the national sovereignty of the regional countries in the campaign against terrorism, adding, "Taking actions without coordination with the government of the affected country will increase instability."

The Qatari official also said, "The regional countries suffer serious problems which should be resolved tactfully." He added, "It should be borne in mind that the current affairs are not a Sunni or Shiite issue; whereas all are plagued by terrorism."
