    Stressing Sovereignty Over 3 Islands

Iran rejected as “baseless” a statement by Persian Gulf Arab states supporting the United Arab Emirates’ claim to three Iranian islands.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham said on Saturday the three Persian Gulf islands, namely of the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, are under the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic, stressing that the repetition of unfounded allegations over the territories would not change “historical facts,” Press TV reported.

On Friday, the six-nation (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council issued a statement at the end of its meeting in Riyadh supporting the UAE’s claim on the three islands.

Maintaining friendly ties with neighbors based on principles of non-interference and mutual respect tops Tehran’s foreign policy agenda, Afkham said, adding that Iran does not see any limit to promotion of relations with neighboring countries and welcomes cooperation with them.
