Ex-President Criticized for Defending Deputy

A member of the Majlis majority faction criticized former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for issuing a statement defending his deputy Hamid Baqaei, who was detained on undisclosed charges last Monday.
“It is the same culture of evading the law by Ahmadinejad. If he had been law-abiding, he would have said he was bound by the law and accepted everything that the law decides,” Gholamali Jafarzadeh said in an interview with ICANA on Friday.
“The judicial system does not detain anyone without any reason, and there is no doubt that there is fairly solid evidence which has convinced the judge to (order Baqaei’s arrest).”
