Deputy Majlis Speaker Mohammad Reza Bahonar announced in an open session of parliament on Tuesday the Majlis Presiding Board has acknowledged the receipt of an impeachment motion for Education Minister Ali Asghar Fani.
The impeachment is scheduled to be held next Wednesday, when Fani will appear before parliament to defend his record, IRNA reported.
The minister had already received an official warning from the parliamentarians in January, as he failed to win the support of the Majlis after being summoned for questioning.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is also expected to appear before parliament in the coming days to answer the lawmakers' questions about the ministry's performance in the ongoing nuclear negotiations with the major powers.
Mohammad Dehqan, member of the Majlis Presiding Board, announced on Tuesday the receipt of two motions to question the foreign minister, one from five lawmakers requesting the minister to explain what they call "back-to-back retreats" by the nuclear negotiating team from the nation's nuclear rights and the other introduced by 14 parliamentarians asking Zarif to give reasons for lack of official information about the details of the nuclear talks.
