The chairmen of the foreign affairs committees of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation, Carlo Sommaruga (lower house) and Felix Gutzwiller (upper house), met Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Tuesday, ICANA reported.

Referring to the important role of the two countries’ parliaments in helping enhance bilateral ties, Larijani called on both sides to make use of the available opportunities for increasing political and economic cooperation to serve the common interests of the two nations.

Sommaruga expressed the hope that Iran’s ongoing negotiations with the major powers over its nuclear dispute will soon come to a conclusion so that the obstacles in way of promoting ties will be removed.

The Swiss lawmakers said the parliamentary delegation’s trip to Iran is an indication of the European country’s firm resolve to develop political and economic relations with the Islamic Republic. The Swiss parliamentarians’ visit came in response to an invitation by Iranian lawmakers.
