The commander of the Qods Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said Iran is the only country committed to helping fight against Islamic State (IS) militants and the United States and other powers are failing to confront the terrorist group.
"Iran is the only country which has been confronting the dangerous phenomenon of Daesh (the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant)," Major General Qassem Soleimani was quoted by Mehr news agency as saying, adding that Iran should help countries suffering at the hands of IS. He made the remarks in a speech to former and serving members of the IRGC in Kerman on Sunday. IS has taken key cities in Iraq and Syria in the past week, routing regular forces in both countries with apparent ease.
"Obama has not done a damn thing so far to deal with Daesh: doesn't that show that there is no will in America to confront it?" Soleimani said.
"How is it that America claims to be defending the Iraqi government, while a few kilometers away in Ramadi killings and war crimes are occurring and they are doing nothing?"
"We should immunize our borders against this great evil and we should help those countries that are suffering under Daesh," Soleimani stressed.
Noting that Iran has never been after "creating problems" for other countries by making "adventurous moves" against them, the top commander said that "Iran has come out victorious in the all-out wars raging against it."
