An adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on international affairs said the continuation of the anti-Israel struggle and resistance against "the usurping regime" along with promoting solidarity between the Palestinians and other Muslim countries are crucial to saving the Palestinian nation.

Ali Akbar Velayati, who is also the head of the Center for Strategic Research of the Expediency Council, made the remarks in a meeting with members of Iran-Palestine Friendship Society and its chairman, Abdulkarim Sharqi, in Tehran on Thursday, ISNA reported.

Highlighting the need for the society to make appropriate moves in an effort to specify the scope of its activities, the senior official highlighted the role of such associations in advancing resistance objectives.

Velayati noted that the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, have always underscored the importance of the Palestinian cause.

He said during his recent trips to Beirut and Damascus, he brought up the issue in meetings with officials of Palestinian resistance movements and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as "the region has now turned into a battlefield for the struggle between the right and wrong."

"Palestine is an issue facing the Muslim world," he said, adding that the key to gaining victory in the effort to take the occupied territories back from the Zionist regime is to struggle rather than compromise. He then pointed to an "axis of resistance" which was first established in Iran and is now extended to regional countries, hoping that the resistance would bear fruit soon in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine.
