Syrian President Bashar al-Assad expressed gratitude to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and Iranian officials and people for their support for the Syrian nation. Assad made the remarks in a meeting with Ali Akbar Velayati, senior adviser to the Leader on international affairs, in Damascus on Tuesday, IRNA reported. He said, “The axis of resistance has taken shape and no one can break it, and undoubtedly we will emerge victorious.” So far the backing by Saudi Arabia, Turkey and some other countries for terrorists has failed to defeat the resistance, and God willing we will witness more victories.” In addition, he said, “Of course, if it had not been for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support, such gains could have not been achieved.” Velayati, for his part, stressed that the Islamic Republic will always stand by the Syrian government and people.
