The spokesperson for the Yemen-bound aid vessel Nejat (literally ‘rescue’) told IRNA on Monday the cargo ship intends to break the blockade on the war-ravaged Arab country. Mojtaba Ahmadi said, “The Nejat ship is seeking to provide aid to the oppressed Yemeni people and break the country’s maritime blockade.”
“We want to clear the way for other countries and Red Crescent societies by breaking the sea blockade of Yemen so that they will be able to directly deliver their relief aid to the war-affected and oppressed Yemeni people.” The aid vessel, carrying 2,500 tons of humanitarian supplies, set sail on May 11 for the Houthi-controlled Yemeni port Hudaydah.
