The deputy chairman of the Assembly of Experts said on Sunday the United States is “in a weak position” in the nuclear negotiations with Iran, noting that the US needs the talks more than Iran, IRNA reported. Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi stressed officials should not be deceived by US sanctions, adding, “Officials of the system should not be rushed by the sanctions because sanctions cannot hinder the country’s progress seriously, although they affect the state of the economy.” Many countries have been able to continue their activities under economic sanctions, so Iran can also do the same.” The senior cleric also said, “Iran is a potential economic power… so there should be no concerns over the enemy’s sanctions.”
