Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the main policy of the hegemonic powers in the region is to launch "proxy wars" to meet their interests.
"In the current situation, the vicious policies of the global arrogance on the region mainly hinge on waging proxy wars… they seek their interests and want to fill the pockets of their arms makers, so regional countries should be careful not to walk into this trap," Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with high-ranking Iranian officials and ambassadors of Muslim countries in Tehran on Saturday on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Mab'ath which marks the anniversary of the appointment of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Fars news agency reported.
He said the claim by the United States that it makes efforts to protect the security of the region is false, citing "the deplorable situation" in Yemen.
"Today, Yemen has become the scene of killing innocent children and women, whose perpetrators are apparently Muslims, but the mastermind (of the massacre) and the main element behind it is the United States."
***Modern Ignorance
The Leader also said, "Fratricide and the dominance of terrorist groups in the region are examples of modern ignorance which are the results of plots by the hegemonic powers led by the United States."
"They use massive publicity campaigns which are based on lies to achieve their evil objectives and serve their interests."
He said the US claims it is campaigning against terrorism while it has played a key role in the creation of "the most dangerous terrorist groups such as Daesh (the Arabic acronym standing for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant)."
"The Americans officially support the terrorist groups operating in Syria and their backers, the Americans support the fake Zionist regime which exerts pressure on the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, but in their slogans they falsely assert that they are fighting against terrorism."
On the US interference in the Persian Gulf region, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "The security of the Persian Gulf is a concern for the countries in the region which have shared interests and not the US, so the security of the Persian Gulf should be maintained by the same countries in the region."
"If the Persian Gulf is secure, all regional countries benefit from security and if the Persian Gulf is insecure, it affects all regional countries."
Elsewhere, the Leader said the Yemeni, Bahraini and Palestinian people are among "the oppressed nations", adding, "We defend the oppressed and confront the oppressor as far as we can."
